Steve Moneghetti

2022 Race Director

Steve, who will be Race Director for the 2022 event, has been a run4reef Ambassador since the first event held in Port Douglas, Far North Queensland in 2011.

Steve is one of Australia’s favourite sons and a legend of his sport. As a 4 time Olympian and Commonwealth Champion his status in Australian sport is unsurpassed.

Steve was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2014 and was inducted in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2021.

Ove Hoegh-Guldberg FAA

Professor of Marine Studies, University of Queensland

Ove is Professor of Marine Studies at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Over the past 20 years he was Founding Director of the Global Change Institute and is Deputy Director of the Centre for Excellence in Coral Reef Studies and Affiliated Professor in Tropical Marine Biology at the University of Copenhagen (2016-present). He has been a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science since 2013.

Ove's research focuses on the impacts of global change on marine ecosystems and is one of the most cited authors on climate change. In addition to pursuing scientific discovery, Ove has had a 20-year history in leading research organisations such as the Centre for Marine Studies (including 3 major research stations over 2000-2009) and the Global Change Institute, both at the University of Queensland.

These roles have seen him raise more than $150 million for research and infrastructure. He has also been a dedicated communicator of the threat posed by ocean warming and acidification to marine ecosystems, being one of the first scientists to identify the serious threat posed by climate change for coral reefs which predicted the loss of coral reefs by 2050.

Tim Cahill

International Footballer & Representing run4reef Principle Partner EVDirect | BYD

Representing global electric car manufacturer BYD and its Australian and New Zealand distributor EVDirect.com, Tim Cahill is one of the greatest Australian footballers of all time.

Tim grew up in Sydney before moving to the UK as a teenager to pursue his dream of becoming a professional footballer. His career spanned 21 years during which he played in the UK, USA, China, Australia and India. He retired in 2019 as Australia’s all-time top goal scorer and now works as a sporting executive in Qatar.

run4reef have also appointed Ambassadors in every host City across Australia and New Zealand. Congratulations to all of our local champions.
