run4reef is a World’s First in terms of simultaneous running events.

run4reef certainly acknowledge the “Wings for Life Run” – a brilliant event raising funds for Spinal Cord Research around the world.

Wings is a simultaneous event where runners all start together and effectively finish their run when the “Catcher Car” passes them.

In effect there are 2 Wing’s time clocks running – the start clock and the catcher car. A wonderful event for a very worthwhile cause.

run4reef is a world’s first. In 2022 there will be as many time clocks as runners – 100,000. Every runner competes with every other runner across all Australian and New Zealand events simultaneously as ONE. They run the same distances, 1km laps, matching courses and their times are measured as they complete every lap of their event. It is a race to the finish with all times across all events aggregated.

In real time there are 22 individual host City events and then an aggregated 23rd overall event. Courses have been selected to ensure all runners have a fair and equitable chance of winning. Participants can check their performance against every other runner in their event and age grouping.

Also of course the run4reef events are running for the Great Barrier Reef and climate action.

run4reef’s future ambition is to expand the run4reef events around the globe – to make run4planet the first global simultaneous running event for climate change.

But first things first – we hope you will join with all our Aussie and NZ runners to bring run4reef to life – running for your own health, the health of your cities and communities and for the health of our global treasure – the Great Barrier Reef.
